Pakistan has ruled over the Baloch people for the past seven decades. The state has sought to maintain its rule over Balochistan by continuously keeping the Baloch people under oppression. However, this violent model of governance has now failed, and once again, ordinary Baloch civilians are being made to pay the price for that failure.
The Baloch genocide is not merely an internal issue of Balochistan; it is a global humanitarian tragedy. Until this genocide and its underlying causes are addressed, every discussion of peace will remain nothing more than rhetoric and an attempt to escape reality.

Over the past several months, under the pretext of security, curfews, military operations, enforced disappearances, and killings have increasingly become routine across different parts of Balochistan.
A large number of these incidents find no place in the narrative presented by the state media. Yet the Baloch people witness these conditions with their own eyes every day and endure their consequences in their own lives. We reject every state policy that puts the lives of Baloch children, women, and ordinary civilians at risk and then dismisses their deaths merely as “collateral damage.” Last night in Surab, Pakistani warplanes carried out aerial bombardment, resulting in 27 people being killed or injured, including children.
If a state considers the killing of dozens of civilians, including children, as a result of bombing civilian homes and populated areas to be a routine operation, then this is not a military operation—it is genocide.

Thepeople of Surab have blocked the road in protest against this brutal and oppressive attack. Their protest demonstrates that they will not remain silent in the face of these killings and threats to their lives and property.
I appeal to the people of Balochistan to come out of their homes in response to the Surab incident and, instead of merely mourning our dead, resist. Our survival lies in resistance.

Surab, Balochistan — Families of civilians killed in an alleged aerial bombardment in the Gandan area of Gidar, Surab district, staged a protest with the victims’ bodies at Surab Main Chowk, blocking the Quetta–Karachi National Highway (N-25).
The protest followed reports of an aerial attack during the night of August 12, 2026. Local sources alleged that Pakistani forces were conducting a military operation in the area when aircraft bombed a civilian-populated location.
Reports concerning the number of people killed have varied. At least six victims have so far been identified by name, while some local and media reports have claimed that the death toll may be considerably higher. Sixteen people were also reported injured. Independent verification of the higher casualty figures has not yet been possible.

The six reported victims identified by name are:
Raj Babu, wife of Rasool Bakhsh
Safia, wife of Noor Jan
Jalal, two-year-old son of Noor Jan
Shabbir Ahmed, son of Khudadad
Noor Jan, son of Rasool Bakhsh
Karim Dad, son of Rasool Bakhsh
The casualties included women and a two-year-old child.
According to reports from the area, police and local residents transported the dead and injured to District Headquarters Hospital Surab, where those wounded received medical treatment. Among the injured were reportedly men, women and several young children. Media reports identified some of the injured children as one-year-old Asim, three-year-old Rahbia, five-year-old Sadia, seven-year-old Fatima, two-year-old Zia-ur-Rehman, one-year-old Ameer and four-year-old Hasina.
Families Protest with Victims’ Bodies
Following the incident, relatives of those killed and local residents brought the victims’ bodies to Surab Main Chowk and began a sit-in on the N-25 Quetta–Karachi National Highway.
The blockade disrupted traffic on the major highway, with long queues of vehicles reported on both sides of the road and passengers facing significant delays. The protesting families expressed strong anger over the deaths and announced that they would continue their sit-in until their demands were addressed. The demonstration highlighted the families’ demand for accountability and answers concerning the circumstances surrounding the bombardment and the deaths of civilians, including women and children.
