Rampant Corruption and Military Terrorism in Occupied Balochistan
Balochistan’s provincial government has frequently failed to provide and maintain basic services to its constituents, including clean water, health care, schooling, employment, and shelter. Thousands of Baloch people have also been internally displaced by violence and natural disasters.
Following the launch of the Zarb-e-Azb operation last year, Pakistan received billions of dollars in foreign aid, including from its major patron, the U.S. Accordingly, many Baloch people suspect that the expansion of the campaign is at least partly motivated by Islamabad’s desire to capture more “anti-terror” funding. This year, the U.S. State Department approved a billion-dollar arms sale to Islamabad.
Despite Islamabad’s assurances that it has severed ties with the Taliban and other violent ideological organizations, evidence of collusion between jihadi militias and the Pakistani state persists.
