In this series we will be examining the policies and objectives of the Baloch pro-Independence parties and activist groups.
Our first interview is with BRP Central Spokesman Sher Mohammad Bugti.
After the 2005 massacre at Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti’s home village in Dera Bugti, the Baloch nation formed a number of pro-independence political parties to oppose the illegal occupation of their homeland. We at BTVO decided to further explore the objectives and policies of the pro-independence Baloch political parties. One such pro-independence party is the Baloch Republican Party.
The BRP was founded by Brahamdagh Khan Bugti, former Jamhoori Watan Party member and grandson of Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti. Soon after Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti and his comrades were assassinated by the Pakistan Army in 2006; the Jamhoori Watan Party disintegrated.
Following in the footsteps of his grandfather Shaheed Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti; Brahamdagh Bugti continued the struggle to liberate the Baloch nation from the iron grip of the Pakistani invaders. To this end Brahamdagh Bugti formed the Baloch Republican Party. Since then, the BRP has been working to facilitate Balochistan’s transition from a state occupied by foreign invaders to a successful independent nation.
In an exclusive BTVO interview; the Central Spokesman of Baloch Republican Party, Honorable Sher Mohammad Bugti shared with us a little about the Baloch Republican Parties vision for an independent Balochistan.
Via written correspondence we asked Mr Mohammad Bugti a number of questions to which he provided the following in-depth responses.
1 - What inspired you to join the struggle for an independent Balochistan?
The illegal occupation of my motherland and decades of sufferings of my people at the hands of Pakistani state inspired me to join the national liberation movement. As I am a follower of Shaheed Nawab Akbar Bugti, he was the main inspiration and leading figure for not only me but an entire generation of Baloch freedom activists and leaders in the current Baloch national liberation movement.
2 - Can you tell us how Balochistan's future would differ as an independent nation compared to its current state of occupation.
In addition to getting rid of the illegal occupation and occupational state atrocities, Balochistan would be a peaceful and prosperous country not only for the Baloch people but also for the entire humanity. Baloch people are suffering enormous injustices by the Pakistani state in occupied Balochistan while an independent Balochistan would be a welfare state bound to improve the lives of its citizens. Pakistani state and its forces are trying to make the occupied Balochistan a breeding ground for religious extremism and terrorism while an independent Balochistan will be free from all evils based on race, religion, sect, and so on. Therefore, an Independent Balochistan would be completely different compared to the occupied Balochistan in all respects.
3 - Please describe the BRP's vision for an ideal transition from occupied state to free nation?
Unconditional withdrawal of Pakistani occupation forces from Balochistan and restoration of an independent and sovereign Baloch homeland are the main objectives of Baloch Republican Party. Our struggle is based on the international norms and therefore BRP’s vision for Balochistan’s transition from an occupied state to a free nation would be the political replacement of occupational state bodies with the Baloch national institutions.
4 - Please tell us a little about the BRP strategy to develop Balochistan.
In addition to the restoration of an independent Balochistan, Baloch Republican Party has a well-composed political plan, as its manifesto, to not only establish new institutions in all sectors but we will also work to develop the industrial, commercial and other state and civil infrastructures. Talent in all fields will be encouraged to contribute to the establishment and development of the Baloch society & state and civil institutions.
We at BTVO would like to thank Waja Sher Mohammad Bugti for his responses and detailed insight into the Baloch Republican Party.
